Workamping is when someone works while camping in an RV or tent, usually in exchange for compensation. It can be a short-term or seasonal arrangement. Nomadic life and workcamping go hand in hand. It can be a great way to make new friends while seeing the country. Our style of life is not easy sometimes. Life on the road can be challenging. Dione and I love it , never a dull moment. It is a great way to see the country while working and paying bills.
What do workampers do?
There are several places that are free to use. Also some that charge a yearly fee. We have used one in particular called Happy Vagabond. It is listed by states. We look for places where we want to go for the summer or winter and fine a job listed where we want to be for that time. There is also groups on Facebook for workcampers. It seems like it works for some folks.
It depends on the area what kind of place you want to work at . There all kind of workcamping jobs to be had. Their are corporate RV campgrounds, Family owned, National parks, Private RV parks. Across the country there are jobs. We look every day for a job or once a week, just to see what is out there. Remember most jobs only last a season 6 months. You are hired seasonal depending on the park and the state.
There are so many jobs to do at any RV park/Campground. I have to say if you learn all there is to know at a campground/RV Park . There is a better chance you will be hired
Jobs Included: Reservation, Front Desk, Maintenance, Food Service, Retail, Camp Host, Landscaping, Housekeeping, Bathrooms, Guest services, Ambassadors, and Security. There are more jobs is bigger parks, Smaller parks everyone does everything. So flexibility is important with a I can do it attitude.
That all depends also on the type of park, the state the park is in. Mostly minimum wage. Now if you have skill they may need you might negotiate for more money. This is where it gets interesting, Most parks in the summer will give you a site with full hook ups for free. Some may offer discount on propane and maybe free laundry. All parks except you to work a 6 to 8 hour shift. maybe 5 days a week may be only 4 days. It depends on their needs. Most park only want couples. The couples will have off the same days, they will mostly work the same day but different sifts. Workcamping is a fun job, but it is a job!
